Cut the Flying Geese square 1 1/4″ larger than the finished length of your desired block. Cut the four smaller Sky squares 7/8″ larger than the finished width of your desired block. Here are measurement examples of two common size blocks I use: 4″ x 8″ Flying Geese block: 9.5″ large square and four 5″ smaller squares.

Step 1: Cut your pieces. For my example, I will be making a 4 ¼"x8 ½" flying geese block. I'll use my flying geese to create a border on a large quilt I am currently working on. Sew 1/4″ on each side of the marked line. Cut on the marked line. Press unit open. Repeat with remaining unit-for a total of 4 flying geese blocks.

Start by cutting two 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" white rectangles for each block. Then cut four 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares for each block.
